The area had been prospected as early as the late 1920’s after the discovery of the Horne and Waite-Amulet deposits. Numerous geological and geophysical surveys have been carried out as well as systematic diamond drilling (more than 600 DDH are listed in the database). From the 1960’s to the 1980’s, Minnova and Noranda continued to explore the area leading to the discovery of the Ansil deposit in 1981. 3D modelling of the various parameters (geology, geophysics and geochemistry) in a gOcad platform lead to the discovery of the West Ansil deposit in 2005.
Following the West Ansil discovery, a 41 DDH campaign was carried out around the West Ansil discovery.
Ansil Mine produced 1.6 Mt at 7.06% Cu, 1.77% Zn, 26.33 g/t Ag and 2.21 g/t Au between 1989 and 1993.
West Ansil deposit:1,130,000 t @ 3.35% Cu, 0.3% Zn, 0.82 g/t Au, 7.45 g/t Ag.
Bedford Hill Zone (Waite Dufault): 229,000t @ 1.45%Cu.
Waite Dufault: 1.50% Cu over 1.80 m in DDH.
Ruisseau Fourcet: 0.55% Cu, 0.01% Zn, 0.11 g/t Au, 21.1 g/t Ag over 1.3 m in DDH.
Milestone: 1.31% Cu over 0.61 m and 0.22% Cu over 3.05 m in DDH.
3D (gOcad) compilation is in progress.
