Central Camp

While the Waite-Amulet area represents the upper portion of the Mine Sequence, the Ansil area represents its lower portion with the sequence directly seated on the Flavrian Batholith to the West. From bottom to top the Northwest Rhyolite is overlain by the Lewis Exhalite and by the Rusty Ridge Andesite. The Ansil Mine is located at the level of the Lewis Exhalite while the West Ansil deposit is located within the Rusty Ridge Formation at the contact between a lower andesitic member and an upper basaltic member.

As elsewhere in the Central Camp, the formations strike roughly North-South and dip gently to the East. Several faults and dykes crosscut the volcanic formations obliterating the stratigraphy at places.

  • Historic Workings

The area had been prospected as early as the late 1920’s after the discovery of the Horne and Waite-Amulet deposits. Numerous geological and geophysical surveys have been carried out as well as systematic diamond drilling (more than 600 DDH are listed in the database). From the 1960’s to the 1980’s, Minnova and Noranda continued to explore the area leading to the discovery of the Ansil deposit in 1981. 3D modelling of the various parameters (geology, geophysics and geochemistry) in a gOcad platform lead to the discovery of the West Ansil deposit in 2005.

Following the West Ansil discovery, a 41 DDH campaign was carried out around the West Ansil discovery.

  • Work Planned

3D (gOcad) compilation is in progress.

  • Property and Project Type

The Ansil area consists of 7 blocks totaling 103 mining titles and covering 2,227 ha. Two of these blocks encompass a 50% joint venture with Glencore – the remainder are 100% Falco-owned.

  • Location

The Ansil area is located in Duprat township, 9 to 17 km North-West of the city of Rouyn-Noranda.
